"Does It Ever Get Easier?"

When it comes to experiencing challenges on the spiritual journey or just life in general, this is a common question or concern. It's common to feel, "I've done so much work. Why haven't things happened for me yet? Why is life still hard?" or "Does it get any easier?"

In some ways, yes. The troubles you experienced on the earlier stages of the spiritual path tend to get easier as you work through your personal patterns and observe the process of healing. I always tell people to pay attention to the way an issue unfolds and what occurs when you take certain action steps. This will give you an idea of how to deal with issues when they present themselves again in the future. The more you do this, the easier it gets even if the situation itself is challenging.

However, I'd be lying if I didn't admit that there are certain aspects of the journey that seem to have gotten harder over the years. Very specifically, I'm referring to delving into the deeper level, core issues contained within us. It seems the deeper we go, the thicker the flesh seems to get and the more it feels like we're literally being steamrolled by the forces of Life. As you navigate through this dense energetic foliage, you'll notice that the light that is embodied on the other side of the process is even brighter than before, which generates even more freedom and life-giving experiences. The deeper you dive into the shadow, the brighter the light shines. But to actually get through the foliage to begin with is a deep, dark trek. Using the example I've used in previous posts, it's like trying to push through a sausage casing, or cutting through a tough piece of meat. It's a journey that is not for the weak. It tests your endurance and your ability to choose faith even when your circumstances look grim; To maintain your composure when you'd rather have a temper tantrum.

At a certain point in this chapter of evolution, I believe we're also working through wounds that exist on a collective level rather than what is limited to our personal traumas. Could be why it feels like so much pressure is being applied. But even this process is one that I think can also get easier if you observe how things unfold and actually pay attention to the end result of persevering through your challenges. What makes the process easier is trusting. Very cliche sounding, but I don't mean just trusting the process in general...like trusting that it'll be ok in the end. I mean also trusting in the purpose of the process. Allowing the process to bring out the best in us and trusting that this is exactly what these experiences were meant to do. Remembering that life is happening FROM us AND FOR us.

In my experiences of healing and growing, I've allowed myself to dip into extremes. I've had faith and I've also doubted...like heavily doubted. I've allowed myself to get upset, to flip off the Universe, to experience the deepest levels of sorrow from going through life's challenges.  Because I allowed myself to experience things organically, naturally I ended up being pushed back to the other end, but in a space that exists somewhere in the middle. Allowing myself to feel the tension of challenge but also letting faith and optimism have a say. I think if we desire to grow and experience change in a way that is lasting, we must give ourselves permission to feel everything. This is so important for knowing where we truly are on our journey and when we are ready for something different. Are we done responding in this way now? Are we ready to trust a little more? To surrender a little more? To let things go and not drag them out? We'll only know if we allow ourselves permission to respond authentically. Going back to our practice of meditation will also maintain our inner light which reminds us that we always have a choice. It's a matter of how much weight we have cleared to make that choice more obvious to us. In an inclusive, unconditionally loving Universe, all of our feelings are allowed to be explored. We just need to give ourselves that same grace.

So, yes certain aspects of life do get easier but we may always feel challenged in some way. Our challenges are how we grow. We can lighten the weight of the challenge by reframing our view of the purpose of it when the clouds break up enough to allow for it. The truth is that Life is aligned FOR us. And remembering this can help us along the way even if this truth can be hard to accept.

Much love,
